“I suffered with MIGRAINE HEADACHES for years, Then, I visited Dr. A. ROBERT ROMANS.”

“I have had migraine headaches for many years, along with ear aches and ringing in my ears. An ENT doctor said there was nothing wrong. The pain radiated from my head down the back of my neck and into my shoulders. Some physicians called my condition, "Fibromyalgia." My jaws hurt in the morning and made popping noises when eating. I was clenching my teeth at night and during stressful times of the day. I was taking ADVIL™ and pain medicine every day to survive. The pain was affecting my family life, my social life, and my business. Nothing helped me, nothing. Then, after a few, short, painless visits with Dr. Romans to correct my bite, I received total relief. My jaws feel great. Now, I lead a normal life free from the excruciating pain of migraine headaches.”

TMJ Diagnosis and Therapy

TMJ stands for the TemporoMandibular Joint, or jaw joint. This is an umbrella term that represents all of the signs and symptoms that a person might have around the ears and jaws, in the back and the side of the head, down the back of the neck, and into the tops of the shoulders. TMJ is often used by doctors to describe tension or pain in these areas or to describe some of the more common headaches, such as "migraine" or "tension" headaches. As the previous statement said, some physicians call it "Fibromyalgia." Clicking, popping, and locking of the jaw joints are common signs and symptoms of TMJ problems. No matter what these painful episodes are called, the overwhelming cause is your functional bite (occlusion). An "occlusal adjustment" refers to the reshaping and smoothing of the biting surfaces of the teeth, which gives you a more even, comfortable bite.

You probably have an incorrect bite if:

1. New fillings, crowns, bridges, partial dentures, or dentures do not"fit."
2. You have chronic headaches, jaw aches, or earaches.
3. You have any broken or severely worn fillings, crowns, or teeth.
4. You are clenching and grinding your teeth, either day or night.
5. Spaces have formed between your teeth.
6. You cannot chew comfortably on both sides.
7. There is a clicking, popping, or locking of your jaw joints.
8. You have teeth that are very sensitive to cold.
9. You havetired or sore jaw muscles at any time.
10. You have teeth that feel loose.
11. You use a bite guard for comfort, either day or night.

A bite protective appliance (bite guard or night guard) provides the relief from pain and "protects" your jaw joints by preventing your opposing teeth from touching. If the teeth do not touch forcefully, especially when you sleep, the muscles of the jaws, head, and neck will relax. It is this relaxation of the muscles that relieves your pain. Bite guards will provide some relief, but it is not practical to depend on them for many months or longer. There are other predictable ways of relieving your pain and headaches. With the proper treatments to your functional bite, your dependence on these devices can be reduced and maybe eliminated ...forever.

Most symptoms of TMJ discomfort, headaches, and the feeling of having an incorrect functional bite can be eliminated if the proper bite adjustment procedures are performed. This is what Dr. Romans does and does correctly.
